Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About Your Trees or Property?

Helpful answers before you get started.

Whether you’re concerned about a tree, planning a property improvement, or looking for help clearing snow, here are answers to common questions about the services available from B&G Tree Trimming in Rio Rancho and surrounding communities.

Tree Trimming and Removal

How do I know whether my tree needs trimming or removal?

That depends on the tree’s condition, where it is growing, and what is causing your concern. Branches crowding a roof or driveway may be addressed through trimming, while a tree with significant decline or problems that pruning cannot reasonably resolve may warrant removal.

You don’t have to make that decision yourself before calling. B&G can assess the tree, explain the options, and provide a free estimate for the recommended work.

Can you trim a tree without cutting it way back?

Yes. Trimming can focus on specific concerns, such as low branches, unwanted growth, or clearance around a structure. It does not have to mean dramatically reducing the entire canopy.

During the site visit, we’ll discuss what you want to improve and what is practical for the tree. B&G emphasizes proper pruning and does not offer tree topping.

Can a tree that was topped in the past be helped?

It may be possible to improve its structure through corrective pruning, but the appropriate approach depends on its current condition and the growth that has developed since topping.

Let us know about the previous work when arranging your assessment. We’ll look at the tree and discuss whether corrective care is appropriate and what you can reasonably expect.

Who should I call about branches growing near power lines?

If branches are growing toward utility lines, contact B&G to discuss an assessment for preventive line clearance. We’ll consider the tree’s proximity to the lines and whether the requested work is within our scope.

If branches are touching power lines, contact your utility provider and keep your distance from the tree and lines. Do not attempt to cut or move those branches yourself.

Can you remove a tree that is close to my house or fence?

A tree’s proximity to buildings, fences, and landscaping is an important part of the removal assessment. Available access and nearby utility lines also affect how the work can be approached.

B&G will evaluate those conditions during the site visit and explain the proposed removal. Point out any features you particularly want to protect so they can be considered in the plan.

Do I need to remove a tree just because it looks unhealthy?

Not necessarily. A change in appearance is a reason to have the tree assessed, rather than assuming removal is the only option.

Tell us what you’ve noticed and when it began, including changes in foliage, dead branches, or visible damage. We can discuss the tree’s condition and whether care, further evaluation, or removal is the appropriate next step.

Will you take away the branches and wood after the work?

Cleanup includes removing the resulting branches and tree debris from the work area. We’ll discuss the cleanup arrangements as part of your estimate.

If you would like to keep suitable wood, mention that before the project begins. Stump grindings and material produced by land clearing should also be discussed separately so you understand how each will be handled.

Stumps and Roots

Does tree removal include removing the stump?

Stump grinding should be specifically included in your estimate if you want the stump addressed. Removing the above-ground tree and grinding the remaining stump are distinct parts of the project.

When requesting tree removal, tell us how you plan to use the area afterward. That helps us discuss whether stump grinding or root chasing should be included.

Can you grind a stump left by another tree company?

Yes. You can request stump grinding as a separate service, even if the tree was removed previously.

B&G will assess the stump’s size, location, and equipment access. If you have several stumps, show us all of them during the visit so the estimate covers the work you want completed.

Does stump grinding remove all the roots?

No. Stump grinding addresses the remaining stump rather than excavating the entire underground root system.

If exposed or disruptive roots are also getting in your way, ask about root chasing. We can assess those roots and discuss including selected root work in the project.

What is root chasing, and when would I need it?

Root chasing means grinding or cutting away selected problem roots after a tree has been removed. It may be useful when roots protrude through a mowing area, create an obstacle where people walk, or interfere with landscaping plans.

The work targets the roots identified during the assessment. It does not mean removing every root beneath the property.

Can I plant grass or a new tree where a stump was ground?

That depends on the condition of the area and the preparation needed for what you want to plant. Stump grindings may need to be removed, and soil or other preparation may be required before restoring the space.

Tell us your plans before grinding begins. If you want a replacement tree, B&G can also discuss whether a different location would offer more suitable growing room.

Tree Planting

How do I choose a tree that won’t outgrow my yard?

Start by considering the space available for the mature tree, rather than just the size of the tree when it is planted. Nearby buildings, driveways, fences, and utility lines all matter.

We can discuss your goals, the growing conditions, and the care the tree will need. Whether you want shade, privacy, or a focal point, the aim is to choose a tree and location that work together over time.

Can you help me replace a tree I had to remove?

Yes. A replacement can help restore some of the shade or appearance you enjoyed, while giving you an opportunity to reconsider the planting location.

If the previous tree crowded your home or outgrew its space, planting elsewhere or choosing a different tree may make more sense. We can discuss those options along with any remaining stump or root concerns.

Land Clearing and Skid Steer Work

Can you clear part of my property and leave certain trees?

Yes. Your clearing plan can identify selected areas and the trees or other features you want to retain.

During the site visit, show us the boundaries of the work and anything important to preserve. B&G will discuss access, the vegetation to be addressed, and how the cleared material will be handled.

Will land clearing leave my property ready for construction?

Not automatically. Clearing unwanted growth may be an early step, but construction can require additional preparation such as grading, soil work, or other services.

If you have requirements from a builder or another contractor, share them during the estimate. We’ll clarify which work B&G can provide and what steps may remain afterward.

Do I need to know what kind of skid steer work to request?

No. Start by explaining the task and what you want the finished area to be like.

We’ll assess the terrain, access, and surrounding features to determine whether our skid steer services fit the job. The estimate will define the agreed work so you know what is included.

Snow Plowing

Do you plow residential driveways and business parking lots?

Yes. B&G provides snow plowing for driveways and parking lots in Rio Rancho and surrounding communities.

Contact us with your property address, the approximate area to be cleared, and any access or timing concerns. We’ll discuss availability, pricing, and the scope of service.

Where will the snow go when you plow my property?

We’ll discuss suitable locations for piled snow before service. The layout of your driveway or parking lot helps determine where it can be placed.

Let us know about garage entrances, gates, parking spaces, landscaping, or other areas that need to remain accessible. Also point out obstacles that could be hidden beneath the snow.

Does snow plowing include ice removal and clearing sidewalks?

Those needs should be discussed separately. Snow plowing addresses accumulated snow in the agreed vehicle access areas and does not guarantee bare pavement or an ice-free surface.

If you need walkways cleared or ice addressed, mention that when contacting us so we can clarify whether those services can be accommodated.
